The Kit Bull Story — Season 1, Episode 4: It’s a Dogs Life!

The West-Side Bunch Tell Kit about their woes

Hi, folks. This is Angela Lambru, creator of The Kit Bull Story. I want to personally welcome and thank you for joining us today. This is your podcast where animals have a voice. Follow Kit Bull as she shares some fun and meaningful stories with a message for everyone. Now sit back and enjoy the episode.

Kit got to know a group of six dogs that came regularly, known as The West-Side Bunch. They always looked forward to their visit, especially their chats with Kit. Rose, on the other hand, had to deal with their moms and dads and their frustrating personalities.

“Of course, I will make sure Lucinda gets a quarter of a can of wet food twice daily. Mila needs to be on a leash at all times, understood, and keep Chiquito away from other dogs, especially the big ones. I know, he's tiny. Chester only gets kibble, no wet food, and Nestor must keep his booties on at all times. Got it, whew!”

“And don't forget Hercules. Keep his two bowls full of kibble. He also gets a can of wet food. And make sure that he has his pillow for his daily naps. And don't forget his pills.”

“I haven't forgotten, Mr. Overdone. It's all written down here from last month. Thank you, everyone. Miss Stern, Mr. Holder, Mr. Molestoso, Mrs. Bizy, Miss Gardwell, and Mr. Overdone. I'm sure you know they will all be in good hands.”

The West Side Bunch quickly huddled together way off in a corner and as far away from their moms and dads. They were all anxious to be heard and talked over one another.

“Hold on, guys. I know you all have plenty to say. Let's calm down and speak one at a time. Mila, why don't you start first? Tell us what's going on.”

“It's the same problem from last week, last month, last year. Nothing has changed. For once, I would just love to stick my nose in a bed of flowers, or sniff the ground or the trees, or run in the park by myself without a leash. Ohhh, why was I born with this nosy nose?”

“Yeah, I know what you mean. I kind of deal with the same thing with these booties I have to wear when we go out, even when it's hot. And lately he has me wearing these little outfits to match the boots to. I gotta tell you, it don't feel right. No, it's, it’s not natural, you know.”

“But at least you lot aren't starved. I get just a half a can of dog food for the whole day, a measly bone to chew on, and no treats. All for the sake of looking good for a dog show. I am doomed to do pirouettes like a ballerina. That's pretty sad, isn't it?”

“And I just get kibble, kibble, kibble. She throws me a bowl as if I were a bird in a cage and thinks I can live on just grains. That's twisted, man. How I'd love a juicy steak right now. Argh-argh.”

“What about you, Hercules?”

“Well, I have no complaints... I think. No, wait. I just don't know what I'd do without my pillow or my pills. I don't know.”

“He's lucky. Look at all the food he gets. And look at his size. He really has it made.”

“Come on, guys. Let's be nice. Everyone has a different story. And everyone has a right to be heard. Remember, we agreed. This is a judgment-free zone. And it doesn't hurt to be nice to one another. Okay, who's next?”

“Oh, come on. Don't forget about me over here. I can hang with the big guys, too. Why do I always have to go in the kiddie pen? Let me out of here. Promise I won't say anything to my mom. Oh, come on, you rats. Give a guy a chance.”

“Sorry, Chiquito. We can't let you out. But we'll come by in a bit. Okay, guys. I hear you all. And there's a lot to think about here. But I think we deserve a break and go play some. We can pick this up the next time we meet. How about it?”

Everybody agreed. Kit was a good listener and didn't rush to dole out advice. She knew they needed to get things off their chest. For the moment, the West-Side Bunch were happy to be heard, to be among friends, and to enjoy themselves.
