The West-Side Bunch returned the following week. They were happy to see each other and eager to meet up with Kit again. The latecomer to the group is Chester. His mom, Miss Bizy, is running and she hands him over to Rose.
“Sorry, I’m going to be late for my engagement this morning. I'm going to be so late for my engagement this morning. Uhh, goodness, I'm not sure when I'll be able to pick him up. I'll phone you and let you know.”
“No worries. And you know, you can always board him again if you need to.”
“Of course I can. Thanks for the reminder. Well, gotta run. Bye.”
While Rose is left holding Chester, the West-Side Bunch are in a corner, not far from the small dog area where Chiquito was. Waiting to start their meeting with Kit, Rose walks up to the group and puts Chester down.
“Here's Chester, guys, in case you were wondering where he was. Those guys really love each other. Makes my life so much easier.”
“Well, she did it again. I'm starting to get a complex.”
“Welcome, Chester. Why were you late? What happened?”
“She's off to one of her soirees again. I mean, what's the point of having me around if she's not going to have me around? Do you know what I mean? Why does she even have me?”
“On the other hand, at least you don't have someone who smothers you. She carries me everywhere. I think I forgot what it's like to walk.”
“I don't know why I feel the way I do. Where's my pillow?”
“Well, I know how I feel. Rotten. Pretty rotten. How would you like it? Always having to sit up straight, have your ears and tail routinely measured, or having to do stupid tricks?”
“Hold on, guys. I know you all have a lot to get off your chest. Please understand, things didn't get worse overnight, and they won't get better overnight either. So you have to be patient. At least, while you're here, you don't have to be subject to all that you are in your homes. What do you say?”
“I'm taking this dumb sweater off because I ain't no doll. My dad sure don't get it, no matter how many sweaters I've chewed off. Ruff.”
“Why do I have to go in the cage when no one is home? It's not like I'm going to escape or anything. I just wanted to smell the flowers in the pot. I can't help it if it broke. And is that any reason to lock me up?”
“I hear you, Mila. And all you guys. So while you're here, you know the drill. Let's go blow off some steam. Come on, Mila. I'll take you to a spot where there are lots of flowers so you could sniff away.”
The West-Side Bunch and Kit scurried off to play enthusiastically. Chester and Hercules joined Chiquito in the small dog area. And for the moment, all their problems were forgotten.
Join Kit and her friends on the next podcast. And thanks so much for tuning in. Thank you.
